About This Song
Winner of a Special Recognition in the 2017 LDS Church Music Submission! This is a powerful new choral setting of a beloved and inspired quotation by Joseph Smith.
“The Standard of Truth has been erected. No unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressing. Persecutions may rage, mobs may combine, armies may assemble, calumny may defame, but the truth of God will go forth boldly, nobly, and independent till it has penetrated every continent, visited every clime, swept every country and sounded in every ear. Till the purposes of God shall be accomplished and the Great Jehovah shall say the work is done.”
-Joseph Smith, “The Wentworth Letter,” 1842
I first heard these stirring words in high school. Since then I have often felt that they should be set to music. Well, I finally got brave and did it! I knew I was on the right track when my kids started singing it around the house. The B section features scriptural quotations highlighting the divine purposes of God’s work and the joy of serving with the Lord in His vineyard.
This piece requires a strong choir and a confident pianist. It may be helpful for the choir to hear the melody once or twice before they start learning it.
